That's What Friends Are For
On October 6, we celebrated the 33rd Anniversary of the founding of our organization at our Annual Awards and Recognition Dinner. It gave us a chance to honor those who made a significant impact on our ability to operate our programs this past year and to serve the needs of nearly 1,000 families in crisis. We were grateful to have more than 200 participants at the dinner.
The Awards Dinners are always a bittersweet time for me as they mark not only the founding of our mission, but the anniversary of my daughter Kelly Anne's death. When I realize the accomplishments of our grassroots efforts, I can't help but remember the many friends who have assisted us tremendously in our development and growth. One of those devoted individuals was Peg Tilson, a friend for more than 30 years. Peg lost her two-year battle with pancreatic cancer the night of our Awards Dinner. Peg worked steadily with us for at least 18 years, first as a volunteer and then in 1996 she accepted the position of Administrative Assistant. Peg was the recipient of last year's Director's Award. Peg was the kind of person that I credit the creation of our mission to--one who was always ready to offer a helping hand to someone in need. We will always be grateful for Peg Tilson's many contributions to our mission and sensitivity to the needs of the families referred to us. We were so lucky to call Peg our colleague and our friend. Her presence in our organization will be felt for many years to come. Our sympathies go out to Peg's family and many friends.
